Sludge

By Daniel O'Connell

I was speaking recently with a client who happens to be a petrolhead. He shared the story of a relatively new car he once owned that had a catastrophic sludge issue. It struck me that something which was intended to lubricate movement and eliminate friction ended up seizing the engine.

I think that often happens with project management software and systems designed to streamline business operations. They often require their own sets of protocols, policies, tools and have a considerable learning curve that makes them inaccessible and non-interoperable.

Sludge can slow cars down and bring some to an expensive end but it can also slow organizations down and prevent businesses getting to their destinations.
