Strong

By Daniel O'Connell

Five days ago a coward placed a bomb outside our office on West 27th Street in Manhattan. The bomb was defused and removed and no one was harmed but its placement nonetheless was an act of terror.

That was Saturday night. The following Monday morning — 36 hours later — our NYC team turned up for work, undaunted by what could have happened.

We’ve seen a lot in NYC over the past 15+ years. As a large, anonymous-but-still-intimate, diverse-but-tight-knit community, we’ve lost buildings and friends and family members but we’ve overcome a lot as well! The experience and loss has made us stronger, more compassionate and better prepared.

I was in Connecticut on Monday morning but saw the emails, joined the calls, debated the ideas, approved the reports and helped develop the client programs as our NYC team — and probably most of NYC — kept the ball rolling and proved that the five boroughs and the people of New Jersey, Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, Long Island and Connecticut comprise the most resilient, indomitable communities one could look for. I was amazed at the strength and continue to be amazed at the resilience.

My thanks to all those in law enforcement who brought this act of terror to a swift and safe close and my deepest appreciation to New Yorkers who make this city unique and great! My thanks also to the inspiring and brilliant team at BD NYC who inspire and motivate me!
